Subnetting Speed Practice #1

Today’s post is the first of what may be several posts over time that supply a number of subnetting practice questions. No explanations (unless you ask), just a problem (in this post) and the answers (in another post so I don’t spoil it).
The rules:
- Start your timer before you look at the rest of the post!
- Be ready to start and finish all 5 problems
- Post and tell me how long it took
- Check your answers versus the next post!
Your job: The problems list an ip address/prefix, eg, 1.1.1.1/24. Your job:
- List the number of network, subnet, and host bits
- List the number of hosts addresses in the subnet
- List the subnet ID, subnet broadcast address, and range of addresses in the subnet
Ready… steady… go!
1) 10.1.1.1/24
2) 172.16.203.203/24
3) 192.168.1.161/26
4) 10.1.99.101/22
5) 172.16.77.177/28
[…] May This post makes no sense without reading this post first. The earlier post lists 5 subnetting problems, and tells you to time yourself. The answers are […]
[…] May Just a heads up, for those of you who are past the ICND1 exam and CCENT. I just posted a new subnetting practice question at the CCENTSkills blog, and answers. Of course, subnetting matters a lot on both ICND1 and ICND2, so just wanted to make […]
hi , took me 5 mins.
3.40 min
Great job! That’s about 45 seconds each, to find the subnet ID, subnet broadcast, and range of addresses in each. That’s pretty close to where you need to be speed-wise for the exam (in my opinion).

as a first time 12 min
Wow! it took me 16 minutes.

I finished the exercise, yet, while comparing with the posted answer, I found the mistake I made with the first problem on the list. I wrote on my answer sheet column the subnet as 10.0.0.0, and then as expected time spent (wasted), in diving to search what went wrong. Shame 12 mnts, but not shame because haste makes waste!!!! Ha — Ha — Ha.
